We’re relatively close to deploying the next generation of Penguin. Internally, we call it “Penguin 2.0?. And again, Penguin is a webspam change that’s dedicated to try to find blackhat webspam and try to target and address that. So this one is a little more comprehensive than Penguin 1.0 and we expect it to go a little bit deeper and have a little bit more of an impact than the original version of Penguin.

How will Google Penguin 2.0 affect SEO

Google PenguinWith Google Penguin 2.0 update, the criteria for getting high SERP (search engine results page) rankings are going to change. If you are already familiar with Penguin, you should know that Google Penguin is a link quality filter. In fact, it is at the top of Google’s algorithm. Penguin runs at random intervals to review and filter inactive or lethargic websites that use certain unethical techniques to gain high SERP rankings.

During the early release of Google Penguin, many SEO experts and webmasters were unhappy about some unjustified ruling of Google to ban some fair websites. On the other hand, unethical websites were still working. Everyone was anticipating the Google Penguin 2.0 update with some fair improvements.

It is quite difficult to predict Google’s next move when they launch Google Penguin 2.0. However, it is quite obvious that Penguin 2.0 will make it tough for backlinking techniques. The best will be to hope for the worst and prepare yourself for the best.

So here we go again! There will no doubt be a lot of shrieking and backlash in various forums as those people who have used black hat techniques take a pounding, and unfortunately some innocents will also get hit. But overall this has to be a good move, those of us using white hat should benefit. I have a site that is struggling to get decent rankings on top keywords, doing a competitor analysis recently I was really surprised how many have backlinks (that ahrefs ranks as good quality) from dubious Russian and Chinese sites.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the search results. I already have observed some changes due to the new domain clustering update with Penguin 2.0.

Some sites that had multiple listings appearing for a search, are no longer! Google is eliminating that to make room for more variety in the search results.

That is certainly going to affect those that use a blogging system with a single domain that they all branch off of!

It’s a good thing. Quality is what matters. No one wants to sift through all poor quality content to get to the good stuff.

    thanks for the update!

Penguin 2.0 is really very helpful for those who follow all the white hat tactics for the link building. Those who are not following the white hat SEO will surely be penalized by the Penguin 2.0. Therefore it is necessary to build organic backlinks for website ranking; it would definitely be beneficial for the websites.
